Concrete Poetry emerged as an international movement during the 1950s and 1960s in Germany and Brazil, with artists and writers in Scotland also playing an important role. The Scottish artist Ian Hamilton Finlay described the concrete poem as ‘a model, of order, even if set in a space which is full of doubt’.

Fourteen artists have been selected from among more than 200 submissions for the 18th Annual Athenaeum Juried Exhibiton. Jurors Michael Krichman, Executive Director of inSite, and Mathieu Gregoire, an artist and Project Manager for the Stuart Collection at UCSD, made their selections earlier this week.
The artists included in the show are Dan Adams, Kraig Cavanaugh, William Feeney, Amy Hyde, Neil Kendricks, Elena Lomakin, Patricia Mercado, Steven Nossan, Annie Omens, Deborah Ruth, Neil Shigley, K.V. Tomney, and Joseph Yorty. All are local, and several have appeared in previous Athenaeum Juried Exhibitions. |

Künstlerbücher gibt es von einigen Editionen, wie ITEM und Bookworks, Coracle, alles Offest-Auflagen-Bücher, also eher konzeptuelle Arbeiten, ausserdem wenige alibi Künstlereditionen und Hochschulen. The Fabric of War exhibit records personal and collective histories of conflict, translated into paper from uniforms and monuments. The cathartic artworks of the COMBAT PAPER PROJECT are executed by veterans using paper made from uniforms imbued with private memories, while Marshall Weber’s THE MONUMENT PROJECT rubbings trace the narrative of war imprinted in its monuments.

Seit 1986 ist Anja Harms buchkünstlerisch tätig, in ihrer typischen Handschrift aus
abstrakten Linien und Flächen, mit kontrastreichen Linolschnitten, Collagen und
inszenierten Texten im Buchdruck, dabei gleichermassen perfekt in der Ausführung
wie subtil textbezogen in den Formen. Sie arbeitet häufig mit Texten von Hans Arp,
Christian Morgenstern, oft auch mit poetisch magischen Texten wie jüngst Goethes
