Thinking about how location influences our artists’ books has led us to realise that most of our work is rooted in a specific place. We arrived at this point individually, via a long route through land art, sculpture, painting, writing, photography and drawing.

IMPACT 6 will celebrate 10 years since the conference began in Bristol in 1999. We would like to focus on the international diversity of the discipline, from its roots in industrial communication through traditional, fine art based processes, to the current cutting edge technology and theoretical debates. With the theme of ‘celebration’ in mind, we will be returning to many of the original topics upon which IMPACT was founded, as well as looking at new areas of discussion that have evolved with the growth and development of the discipline. The 2009 Southern Graphics Council Conference, hosted by Columbia College Chicago, will examine the Global Implications of our interdependence and cultures.
Printmaking is the art medium most responsive to changing technologies, but also retains many otherwise obsolete techniques. As print artists, we find ourselves uniquely situated. We employ the latest digital imaging tools and centuries-old techniques for hand mark-making. We make exquisite, precious objects and democratic gestures. We are able to share our imagery and processes with anyone, anytime while also creating community, dialog and collaboration in our own shops. |
